CHARLOTTE SALOMON--The "Other" Anne Frank at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco until Oct. 16, 2011
Discover Charlotte Salomon at a wonderful, albeit heart-wrenching exhibit at the CJM in San Francisco. Charlotte was a young Jewish artist from Berlin, who worked feverishly between 1940 and 1942 to maintain her sanity during Hitler's uprising to produce approximately 1300 paintings before she was arrested by the Nazis in 1943, transported to Auschwitz, and killed at the age of 26. Her gouaches make up "Life? or Theatre?", which through imagery and text tell the slightly fictionalized and theatrically imagined story of Salomon’s family. Don't miss this phenomenal exhibit, a legacy to her life and many like her's.

ARTISTS AGAINST RACISM announces the winner of the 2010
TAKE A STAND AWARD
Artists Against Racism is proud to announce that Greg Walsh, coach of the NAPA Auto Parts minor hockey league team, in Peterborough, Canada, has won Artists Against Racism's inaugural TAKE A STAND Award.
This award is presented to individuals who take a heroic stand in the face of racism, whose conscience rules their actions, thus serving as great role models to us all.
On Nov. 15, 2010, Greg Walsh took a stand when he removed his team from the ice as a result of a racist remark inflicted on one of his l6 year-old players, Andrew McCullum, by a member of the opposing team. In an effort to both protect his player and to send a message to both teams, Walsh refused to let his team return to the ice as described in The Toronto Star
Since we and others have spoken out, the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), the largest minor hockey association in the world, has decided to end Mr. Walsh's suspension which was supposed to last until Apr. 10. Even during his suspension, however, Walsh stuck by his values of zero tolerance in the face of racism. For his solid stance we applaud him, and proudly honour him with the 2010 Take A Stand Award.
